Rihanna Racial Slur In Dutch Magazine Causes Editor To Resign

Following the fracas caused by Dutch magazine Jackie referring to Rihanna as a “n****bitch” in its latest issue, the publication’s editor-in-chief Eva Hoeke has announced her resignation through a statement from Jackie‘s publishers. What likely gave Hoeke the final push out the door was when Rihanna herself took to Twitter to blast the mag, and ended her rant with a big old “f*** you.” “Following these events [Eva Hoeke] consulted with publisher Yves Gijrath of GMG. Together they came to the following joint conclusion: In the interest of Jackie Magazine and all involved she will leave her function as editor-in-chief effective immediately,” reads part of the long statement.

The publishers also indicate that Hoeke has been taunted and threatened in various ways after all the attention the article has caused.

As for the former editor-in-chief herself, who at first attempted to apologize through Twitter before resigning, she says the following in the statement:

“The term ‘n***bitch’ came from America and we solely used it to describe a style of dress. Because of the enormous pressure through social media I was tempted to promise amendment regarding the language in future issues of Jackie. Apart from that I also offered an rectification…. Through the course of events, me and the publisher have concluded that because my credibility is now affected, it is better for all parties if I quit my function as editor-in-chief effective immediately. After putting my heart and soul into for Jackie for eight years, I realize that these errors — although not intented maliciously — are enough reason for leaving.”

In the final bit of the statement, Rihanna is invited to “share her feelings and thoughts on the article in the next issue.”
