Heavy D’s autopsy report shows that the rapper died on November 8 of a blood clot in his lung. The Los Angeles Times reports today that Craig Harvey, chief of the Los Angeles County department of coroner, said the blood clot “most likely formed during an extended airplane ride.” Dwight Arrington Myers (Heavy D’s real name) had recently returned from a trip to London before his death. He was 44. “He was treating himself with cough syrup,” Harvey added. “But it was not contributory [to his death].”

Heavy D initially collapsed outside his Beverly Hills home after a shopping trip. It’s noted that the artist was conscious when an ambulance arrived. He died while being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Famous friends of the rapper like Diddy, Russell Simmons, Flavor Flav, Pepa of Salt N Pepa, and Shawn and Marlon Wayans attended his wake in November. Later, various MCs paid homage to Heavy D during a tribute performance at the Soul Train Awards.

An initial autopsy report following Heavy D’s death last month proved to be inconclusive.
