Lady Gaga Will Drop The Ball On New Year’s… Literally

Lady Gaga will be ringing in 2012 in Times Square, but she’ll be do more than perform— Mayor Michael Bloomberg has invited the pop star as his special guest to push the button that begins the ball drop. Or should we say Monster Ball drop?

Every year, Major Bloomberg invites a guest to push the button, though choosing Gaga for 2011’s honor is a bit unprecedented, considering past honorees have included Bill and Hillary Clinton, Colin Powell, Muhammad Ali and Rudy Giuliani. But can any of those people boast New York City as their husband? Nope!

“I’m so looking forward to performing on NYE+dropping the Ball with Mayor Bloomberg!” tweeted Gaga after the news broke. “What an honor as a New Yorker! #citydoll”

Right before she starts the countdown to the new year, Gaga will perform a set on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2012, while no doubt wearing something inappropriate for the cold weather.

Gaga’s Born This Way is out now on Streamline/Kon Live/Interscope. Purchase it at eMusic.
