Wiz Khalifa Sued Over “Black And Yellow”

You know a song is really a hit when people come out of hiding long after the fact to claim it was stolen from them. A Pennsylvanian songwriter named Max Gregory Warren is suing Wiz Khalifa for allegedly stealing the concept for his 2010 single “Black And Yellow” from Warren’s 2008 copyrighted song “Pink N Yellow”.

Warren is seeking a total of $2,375,000 in punitive and actual damages, and claims the defendants (who also include Khalifa’s publishing company PGH Sound, EMI Music Publishing, Rostrum Records, Warner Music Group, Atlantic Recording Corporation and the single’s producers, Stargate) “engaged in a scheme to defraud plaintiff out of the fruits of his copyright of the Subject song.”

The tokin’ MC has said that “Black And Yellow” refers to the team colors of his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers — as to what “Pink N Yellow” refers to, we’ll have to keep on wondering, since we doubt we’ll ever get to hear it.

UPDATE: JK! Here it is. Think the two tracks are way too suspiciously similar, or is this just a coincidence? (Honestly, we think “Pink N Yellow” was more than a little influenced by Jay-Z’s “99 Problems”.)

The rapper’s debut album Rolling Papers (whose cover art was so great, we called it one of the Best of 2011) is out now on Rostrum/Atlantic. Purchase it on eMusic.
