“Excuse me, can I please talk to you for a minute?” So began Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine”, a cheeky female take on Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s classic “The Girl Is Mine”. The sassy slice of funk-pop went on to spend 13 weeks atop the Hot 100 chart, thus becoming the best-selling single of 1998. And it looks the ladies, who hit a Miami studio together over the weekend, are aiming to release a follow-up to their ’90s smash. “We have Both Been Blessed Beyond Measure..14years later.. #TURNTHELIGHTSON ❤Love,” Monica tweeted on Friday, along with the above pics of her with pal Brandy.

Producer-songwriter Rico Love (Beyonce’s “Sweet Dreams”, Nelly’s “Just A Dream”), also pictured above, added the following via his own Twitter account: “My dreams come true on a daily basis… God is the greatest!!”

As for Brandy, yesterday she tweeted, “Wonderful night in the studio! I wasn’t 100%, but I gave it my all and it turned out great! Just a little more raspy than normal:)”

Brandy & Monica — “The Boy Is Mine”

“The Boys Is Mine” was co-produced by Rodney Jerkins, Dallas Austin and Brandy, and served as the lead single off both Brandy’s Never Say Never and Monica’s The Boy Is Mine albums in 1998. The song won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.

Monica is currently recording her seventh album New Life. We’re guessing the Brandy duet will be included, and, judging by the above tweets, could have the title “Turn The Lights On”.

Are you excited for the reunion of these ladies of R&B-pop?
