‘American Idol’ Season 11 Posts Lowest Premiere Ratings Since Season 1

Can we get a replay of that scream American Idol hopeful Joshua Chavis let out in the Season 11 opener? Because it’s probably the same sound Fox execs made when the ratings came in for the episode. The Savannah auditions failed to shape into a big draw for TV viewers, as last night’s premiere dropped 17% compared to the one from a year ago. Despite Fox winning Wednesday night, Idol only snagged 21.6 million viewers on Wednesday — the series’ lowest opening since Season 1 rolled out in summer 2002. What do you think — talent show burnout after The X Factor, perhaps?
