Kelly Clarkson Covers Etta James At Radio City Music Hall

Jan 22nd, 2012 // 9 Comments

Many of our favorite stars shared kind, loving, and inspired words for Etta James on Twitter upon learning of her passing from complications of leukemia on Friday. But of course, the most fitting tribute is a musical one — and that’s what Kelly Clarkson delivered at her Radio City Music Hall stop on her Stronger tour last night. Die-hard American Idol fans will remember that Season One’s big winner started off by auditioning with Etta James’ “At Last.” Now, to bring it full circle, she has performed “I’d Rather Go Blind” for her New York City fans, and trust us — you would much rather see it for yourself than go blind. Watch below.

What do you think of Kelly’s tribute? Would Etta be proud? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter or in the comments.

I was at the show last night and this was one of the highlights! Her voice was so perfect. I had the best time. Kelly never disappoints.

  5. Yoyo

    She is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!

  6. JLM

This girl has a Voice!!! She and Adam Lambert are the best things to come out of Idol and validate its very existence!!

She’s got the voice, but she needs to learn (after all these years) how to work the stage and move! Create atmosphere with lighting effects.

    Kelly,
Girl you did Ms. Etta proud! I E.J. had to profoundly stomping with you on that tune in heaven. She more than likely accompanied the stomping with the proverbial head shaking and the right hand rasied, which in my mind, regarding the world of music, is stating “child you did Momma E.J. proud!”

  9. Shelly

I take it you weren’t at the concert SallinChicago, because the lighting effects were breathtaking. Kelly’s tribute to Etta was one of the best vocal performances that I have ever had the privilege of witnessing. Absolutely perfect and I hope Etta loved it. I sure did.

    One word………OUTSTANDING.
