Those worried that Damon Albarn was just going to sit back and sip piña coladas while counting piles of cash now that Gorillaz seem to be taking a break can let out a sigh of relief. The 43-year-old is due to be feted along with his fellow Blur-mates for their Outstanding Contribution To Music at next month’s BRIT Awards. There are also reports that the “Song 2” band are recording their first album since 2003’s Think Tank with Madonna producer William Orbit. But ahead of that, Albarn has busied himself with remixing Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die”. Listen below! With Albarn’s mix, “Born To Die” is stripped of its orchestral layer and spruced up with a George Michael “Father Figure”-esque electronic snap beat, plus a few synth notes here and minimal squiggles there.

Overall, it’s a pretty compelling reworking of Lana’s track that comes off subtle and understated at first, but quickly worms its way to likeability.
