Mary J. Blige Tweets About Her Oscar Snub

Though The Help scored several Oscar nominations this morning for Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, Mary J. Blige’s original song for the film, “The Living Proof”, ended up being passed over. And Mary is sharing her disappointment about the lack of (real) love for her tune. “I’m so thankful for true fans like you all,” the singer tweeted. “It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is…” She then trailed off, filling her Twitter feed with retweets of her fans’ messages of support.

Blige’s “The Living Proof” was nominated for a Golden Globe, but lost out to Madonna’s “Masterpiece.” Being that Madge’s tune was ineligible to be nominated for the Academy Awards, Blige probably assumed her song would be a frontrunner in the Oscar race for Best Song. (Us, too!) However, only two songs (out of five possible slots) were nominated in this year’s race — “Man Or Muppet” from The Muppets and Rio’s “Real In Rio”.

Although Mary felt snubbed by the Academy, she still managed to deliver a gorgeous rendition of her song this morning on Live! With Kelly. (She also co-hosted the episode.) The best revenge is a knockout live TV performance, right, Mary?
