Surprise! Catholics Not Happy With Nicki Minaj’s Grammy Performance

Nicki Minaj’s Grammy performance of her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded track “Roman Holiday” offended more than just people with good taste. The Catholic League has criticized the rapper for her religious-themed production, which included the “Starships” artist being exorcized as sexy monks danced around her on stage.

“Perhaps the most vulgar part was the sexual statement that showed a scantily clad female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy knelt between her legs in prayer,” says the League’s president Bill Donohue. “Finally, ‘Come All Ye Faithful’ was sung while a man posing as a bishop walked on stage; Minaj was shown levitating.”

The conservative religious organization blames the Recording Academy for the performance more than they blame Minaj. “None of this was by accident, and all of it was approved by The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys. Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.” (Did you catch that snark? Ha!)

“The Grammys chose ‘Roman Holiday’,” Nicki told Ryan Seacrest the day following her performance. “They heard ‘Roman Holiday’ and I could not play them another record after that. I have to stay true to what I’m doing… Roman was created two years ago. I’ve been writing the story for a long time and [The Grammys] was his coming-out party.”

During the same interview, Minaj also blasted her Super Bowl partner M.I.A. for flipping the bird during their performance of “Give Me All Your Luvin'”, saying she was “disappointed” and that “I couldn’t see myself doing it.” And yet she could see herself rapping while undergoing an exorcism as altar boys prayed with female crotches stuffed in their faces. But how dare M.I.A. raise up her middle finger!
