For those feeling more grumpy than googley-eyed on this day of love, Usher and Diplo have a breakup song that might make you feel just a little bit better. On the atmospheric “Climax”, Usher brings out his falsetto for a nice fusion of R&B and electro — which is basically how Diplo describes it. “It’s some next level electro-soul,” wrote the producer. “Seriously the best record I’ve been part of. Really proud of it.” Listen below.

Usher feat. Diplo — “Climax”

“I’m on my knees, we’re going nowhere fast, we’ve reached the climax,” delicately coons Usher.

We love how the song doesn’t need to explode by the end (or add an oh-so trendy dubstep breakdown in the middle) to make a strong impact. It’s a nice indication of what we can expect from Usher in the future, who hasn’t released an album since 2010’s Raymond V. Raymond.
