High School Musical alum — and our very own Popping Up artist — Drew Seeley is the first artist to participate in the Donate a Song project, which aims to encourage celebrities to write and record an original song for their fans who are seriously ill. Drew did just that for a 14-year-old cancer patient named Brooke, who is currently undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma bone cancer at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. After an intimate Skype session between the pop star and one of his biggest fans, Drew penned an inspirational song called “Fly”, which Brooke calls “the best birthday present ever.” Check it out below.

“Fly” is available now on iTunes. All proceeds from sales of the single will be donated to the pediatric oncology research team at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Drew can next be seen starring in ABC Family’s first major movie musical, Elixir, set to air this Summer. His album The Resolution is out now.
