It’s been a long journey for Chris Rene, who first auditioned for The X Factor by singing his original song “Young Homie”, and is now premiering the music video for the mid-tempo pop jam. Though Chris came in third on the TV series last year (behind 19-year-old champ Melanie Amaro and Josh Krajcik), “Young Homie” is a celebration of the singer’s turbulent life that sounds pretty much like a winner’s song to us! Head below to get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Chris in the studio with hit-making producer J.R. Rotem while recording the studio version of “Young Homie.” Chris Rene — “Young Homie” (behind the scenes)

J.R. Rotem was more than happy to hit the studio and experience “fireworks” with Chris by laying down the track following The X Factor. “I was psyched,” he says. “As a producer, it was the best possible scenario — it’s like somebody saying, hey, here’s an artist who’s super talented, the real deal, who’s new but has a huge following already with a song that already has a following.”

“Me representing love through my music is the main thing for me,” Rene says. “If the world is ever gonna get a chance to see Chris Rene and see what he’s about, or see what’s going on, this is the song that will capture that…this is me. This is what I like to do, what I love.”
