Though Katy Perry’s live performances of “Part of Me” have featured her looking like some kind of futuristic gladiator, the video for this Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection single is giving us more of a G.I. Jane look (as we spotted in the preview). Someone must have told Katy that bright blue hair is hard to camouflage, because here we see her chop off her black locks and enlist in the Marines after a philandering ex breaks her heart. Apparently the part of her that we’re never gonna ever take away from her is a machine gun! (We certainly don’t intend to try taking it away, though.) Drop below and give us 20, then watch Katy Perry’s patriotic “Part of Me” video.

Color us surprised — but we think this storyline works pretty well with the message of the song, even if it’s hardly what we imagined from a single that plays mostly like a kiss-off to soon-to-be ex-husband Russell Brand. The lyrics are meant to be empowering, and there is something inspiring about Katy striving to make a positive difference in the world after her heartbreak rather than crumple into a heap of tears. Plus, how often do you get to see a pop diva go through boot camp?

Do you think Katy Perry’s military look matches the message behind “Part Of Me” the song? Tell us in the comments below, or on Twitter and Facebook.

Awesome video. Never seen an army theme. It’s always weird for the sake of weird. But this makes sense for the song.

  2. l like it but all her previous videos were better than that

I’ve never watched a video more boring in my entire life! Seriously, completely, totally lacklustre. Like watching an advertisement for the army with a pop song imposed over it, but the advertisements are more exciting and riveting than that video was! I suppose it sort of (barely) goes along with the song.

left me going huh? A thumping addictive dance/pop song with an army theme? I don’t get it. Luckily I loved the song before I saw the video so it holds my interest.

Katy Perry is amazing! This video goes with the song, because the song is about letting go and moving on with your life after something like a breakup happens. Its amazing and I love her!
She deserves an award for this video! I cant stop smiling after this! BRAVO Katy! <3
    I love her!

  8. This video was like a big middle finger to the Marines. Who joins the Marines after a break-up? Nobody, not even if you’re insane. Killing your ex-boyfriend is more likely to happen over joining the marines. It’s just a bad video. For example, Katy’s acting in the beginning – “Don’t touch me, don’t touch me.” It was HORRIBLE. And then she goes all mannish for some reason. Why did she have to cut off her hair dramatically in the bathroom? Couldn’t she go to a barber shop? And why did she tape down her chest? Then, make-up while training; good one Katy. If she really was committed to this video, she would’ve really done no make-up, no gimmicks at all. Having seen this video just confuses me, actually. First she wants to be masculine by cutting off her hair, and then she wears make-up. This video is a joke. (Oh, and P.S. Katy, your album art for, “Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection” looks like it was made in two seconds.) If you want better videos, check out any other pop star, not even just Lady Gaga. Any others – at least they’re not mocking our country.
