The few. The proud. The Katy Perry. In her “Part Of Me” video, pop’s blue-haired hit-maker — who seems to be doing just fine without Russell Brand these days, thank you very much — leaves behind an overly-flirty boyfriend and becomes so distraught that she joins the Marines. After watching the songstress go through boot camp in the visual for her Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection single, the Internet at large weighed in with thoughts on all the camouflaged action that played out. Head below for a roundup of the critics’ reviews, then let us know your own opinion on Katy’s latest video! :: Entertainment Weekly‘s Music Mix notes, “It’s less G.I. Jane and more In the Army Now, but Katy Perry’s new pop-military video for ‘Part of Me’ is still an intense ride.”

:: The Lava Lizard hints that Perry’s recent breakup may be behind “Part Of Me”: “Perry almost always manages to deliver a solid video and ‘Part of Me’ continues that trend. In fact, she was quite convincing in the role of a scorned girlfriend and really committed to the role. I wonder why…”

:: But while the video may have been inspired by her split from Russell Brand, Huffington Post reminds us that the song, at least, was not: “…Perry has denied the song is about Brand, stating she wrote the record more than two years ago. This means that the track could very well be about her other famous ex, Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy.”

:: NewNowNext isn’t convinced, though: “We still ain’t buying that this is not a giant ‘Fu*k You’ to Russell.”

:: MTV Buzzworthy notices the change-up in Perry’s usual M.O. with the clip: “‘Part Of Me’ was filmed at an Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California, and Katy’s fellow troops in the video are actual Marines. It’s an unexpected move from the girl we’re used to seeing in stilettos, electric hair in a candy land of her own design.”

:: E! Online finds that the video is “not what we expected…but still rocks.”

:: The Prophet Blog is digging Katy’s new look for the moment: “This current image will certainly suffice until we get bored again, and then start complaining that we want her to start lactating liquorice and shooting fireworks out of her vagina.”

:: Whether the vid is about Russell Brand or not, Chart Rigger wonders, “But why not turn lemons into lemonade (or at least cash)? Maybe the military can license this boot camp epic and use it as their next recruitment ad?”

:: Zap2it is feeling the patriotism — and the girl power: “The makeup is gone and it’s as far from glamorous as it can get, but it pays homage to our troops and the scores of brave women who have joined up.”
