Garbage have revealed the video for their single “Blood For Poppies”, off their first album in way too many years, Not Your Kind Of People. The alt-rock band’s clip is filmed in Los Angeles in grainy black-and-white, and is inspired by old silent films — particularly Luis Buñuel’s surrealist classic Un Chien Andelou, which featured a cow’s eye being slit open. (Shirley Manson is the one under the knife in here.) Watch below.

Manson revealed during the band’s Ustream chat that the clip was indeed influenced by the cinematic works of René Magritte and Luis Buñuel. “We piled into a transit van with the ridiculously talented team of [director] Matt Irwin and Aaron Brown and hopped around little pockets of Los Angeles creating a gorgeous surrealist dream,” she said. “We ate ice cream sandwiches in the sunshine and laughed a lot. I didn’t want the shoot to end.”
