Primadonna Marina Diamandis — you may know her as the head of Marina And The Diamonds — popped up on UK chat show Lorraine on Friday (Apr. 13) to talk about her Madonna-inspired “pink and fluffy” new look, opening for Katy Perry and overcoming last year’s #1 killer of awesome musical tours: vocal cord injury. Suffering from a ruptured vocal fold, Marina told the host she’s been on a week of silence (outside of her promotional engagements) and isn’t allowed to drink vodka, eat spicy food or fried chicken. “So it’s like, my life’s over,” she joked.

The Electra Heart singer went on to talk about how the breakup-heavy album informs her look, saying, “I wanted to find a way of personifying love and personifying the idea of heartbreak.” Of her newly blond and voluminous locks, the “Homewrecker” says she was inspired by strong women Marilyn Monroe, Madonna and Marie Antoinette.
