Young Money femcee Nicki Minaj disappeared from Twitter Sunday (Apr. 15), causing the Barbz’ faithful to get hashtags #NickiIsStillTheQueen and #NickiComeBack to briefly trend. (Notably, hashtag #WeLoveLilKim — referencing Nicki’s perceived nemesis Lil Kim — also began to trend.) Shortly before her account went inactive the most followed rapper on the site tweeted, “Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f***ing bye.” Nicki and her team have yet to confirm the reason for her sudden departure, but some outlets are reporting it may have to do with a song leak and nasty messages she received from her followers.
On Saturday (Apr. 14), Nicki tweeted, “And that’s exactly why I’m paying the barbz DUST right now! And deleting my twitter. Smdh – don’t cry 4 me argentina,” later adding: “On 2nd thought I’ll just follow a new set of barbz. The ones I follow r very mean and ratchet.*side eyes them*”
This isn’t the first time the outspoken rapper has made headlines via the social network. Last November, the Roman Reloaded mastermind took Cher to task after the timeless diva responded to reports that Nicki dissed her on a new track.
Twitter gives users 30 days to reactivate deleted accounts. (Chris Brown and Kid Cudi both ditched the site, only to return later.) We think — and hope! — Nicki will soon be back, especially considering that she’s right in the middle of the promotional cycle for her chart-topping sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
