Gotye Not Impressed With ‘Glee’ Cover Of “Somebody That I Used To Know”

Gotye got his Kimbra duet “Somebody That I Used To Know” to the top of the Hot 100 chart last week week with the added help of TV exposure on Saturday Night Live and Glee. But the latter series’ rendition of his worldwide hit tune has the Belgian-born, Australia-based artist dishing out words you’d think he’d reserve for the next time he pens an ode to being jilted. “They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals, but the vocals were that pop Glee style, ultra-dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it’s playing to you from a cardboard box,” the 31-year-old told the Sunday Mail.

In the Glee episode “Big Brother” that aired two weeks ago, Darren Criss’ character Blaine sings “Somebody That I Used To Know” after becoming fed up with his critical sibling Cooper (played by Matt Bomer), who is back in town and teaching the New Directions an acting class.

But Gotye is giving Darren and Matt’s delivery of his single an F. “It made it sound dinky and wrong,” the singer added to the Sunday Herald Sun.

Well, as we know from song itself, the drama can be served up from both sides of a relationship. Odds of Gotye’s next single getting some Glee love? We have a feeling the show will have moved on.

Do you think it’s too early for the singer to be biting one of the hands that fed him, or was Glee‘s version of “Somebody That I Used To Know” truly that bland?
