Like millions of others in the music-verse, our hearts were broken by the grim news Friday (May 4) that Beastie BoysAdam “MCA” Yauch had lost his long fight against cancer. Shortly following the announcement of his passing, Beasties songs began to flood Twitter’s trending topics — and for good reason.

Beyond giving us some of the most enjoyable albums over the last 20+ years, Adam directed music videos such as “Ch-Check It Out” and “Make Some Noise” as well as the group’s concert documentary Awesome; I F*ckin’ Shot That!, and used his fame as a platform to speak out on matters close to his heart: a free Tibet and a nonviolent resolution in the Middle East.

It’s hard to believe that we’ve lost another music great this year — 2012, what are you doing to us?! While we honor MCA with a long listen of our favorite Beastie Boy records, we invite you to remember Adam Yauch’s life in photos with a look back at the career of these “three bad brothers you know so well.”
