Nicki Minaj’s “Right By Your Side” Video Features Nas & Chris Brown: Watch

Though Chris Brown is the one with a featured guest verse, it’s Nas who plays Nicki Minaj‘s love interest in the video for her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded single “Right By Your Side”. (Don’t worry, Team Breezy members, Brown appears in the clip as well, though he’s given much less to do.)

Nicki and Nas kick off the Benny Boom-directed clip all lovey-dovey — he buys her a new car, takes her shopping, and enjoys a mid-day meal with his sweetie. Then we see Nas pensively smoking a cigar in slo-mo, dejectedly walking down a hallway, and Nicki sulking alone on a bench… til he reappears and they make up. Make up from what? What fight did they have? Was Nas jealous that Nicki kept going off to film superfulous scenes with Chris Brown?

Though it’s nice to see Minaj toning it down a bit — the weird and outrageous neon beach bimbo fantasy of “Starships”, this is not — the video feels hastily thrown together, and could have benefited from a stronger concept and a clearer narrative.
