Donna Summer, Remembered: 13 Iconic Albums

Our pop hearts grew heavy today (May 17) when we learned that diva, disco pioneer and First Lady Of Love Donna Summer  succumbed to her battle with cancer. She was just 63 years old. Her music not only touched our hearts, it moved through us — making our toes tap, our hips shake and our legs carry us onto the dance floor. Thanks to the music icon’s longtime collaboration with Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, our shoes were worn thin dancing to “Love To Love You Baby”, “I Feel Love” and “Hot Stuff”.

Ironically, when the sassy siren signed with Geffen Records, label owner David Geffen was displeased with their output on I Am A Rainbow and made Donna part ways with Giorgio and Pete — despite the fact that two of the album’s tracks would go on to land on the Fame and Fast Times At Ridgemont High soundtracks.

Donna would go on to create her biggest splash of the ’80s, She Works Hard For The Money, to meet her contract requirement with her old label Casablanca, who claimed at the time she owed them one more album. The disco diva would find success again in 1989 when she teamed up with Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman on Another Place And Time, which gave us the unforgettable “This Time I Know It’s For Real”.

So dim all the lights, sweet darlings, in memory of the late Queen Of Disco and take a look back at 13 of her biggest albums in our gallery above.
