Original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson follows up her Billboard Music Awards performance of new single “Dark Side” with a nicely-timed premiere of the song’s music video (the day after the AI finale, naturally). The tune keeps with theme of her previous singles “Mr. Know It All” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)”, in that Clarkson lyrically delves into her own well of inner strength — though she does come across as more vulnerable here. And the video for the clip reflects that.

Watch the vid above and decide if you love Kelly, even with her dark side.

In “Dark Side”, various down-and-out people in sorrow are shown: a man who lost his job due to the poor economy; a young woman dissatisfied with her weight; a victim of bullying; a returning war veteran who lost a leg.

“Don’t run away, don’t run away, just tell me that you will stay,” Clarkson sings as the mood shifts, ocean waves crash and the sun begins to shine. The video ends with the songstress embracing each of the disenfranchised folks in the clip.

And now let’s just cut to the chase and say what’s on everyone’s mind after watching “Dark Side”: damn, Kelly — you’re looking fine these days, girl!
