John Mayer Takes ‘Born And Raised’ To #1 As Adam Lambert Takes A Tumble

John Mayer can pop a bottle over the fact that the singer-songwriter’s Born And Raised has become his third chart-topping LP. Mayer’s first album in three years debuts atop the Billboard Top 200 on the strength of 219,000 copies sold, and sends last week’s #1, Adam Lambert‘s Trespassing (22,000), tumbling down to #11.

Still, that’s better than Lambert’s buddy Kris Allen fared — the former American Idol winner’s second major label effort Thank You Camellia limps onto the chart at #25 (16,000). Allen’s previous, self-titled LP reached #11 on the chart in 2009, the year he took the Idol crown.

Elsewhere, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash rocks in at #4 with second solo album Apocalyptic Love (38,000), Christian act MercyMe debut at #7 with Hurt & The Healer (33,000) and Sara Bareilles makes a #8 entrance with EP Once Upon Another Time (31,000).

Woaaaa…..I haven’t been following these Idol people lately. Poor Kris Allen! That’s a lousy entry. I picked up John Mayers CD. It’s ok, I like his last one better. Adam Lambert was number one last week? Woaaaa again! Good for him! Isn’t this the second time Adam Lambert has firmly traunced Kris Allen? It’s kind of funny.

So dissapointed in the new sales numbers for Adam’s album, Trespassing. I had really hoped that his fan base would have done a much better job of buying his new music. I love this album…….

Adam is competing on the charts with long-time well established artists such as John Mayer for one. It is hard for a relatively new artist to compete in that field. That being said, he charted at number 1 with the debut of his new album “Trespassing” and that is nothing to sneeze at. Adam hit the top with his debut and his popularity will only grow from here, especially with the new sound. Love it. He should be very proud of his placement on the charts. The album is fantastic!

Thank you for such positive reinforcement. It’s nice to see rather than negative comments a lot of the time. Adam is a rare and wonderful talent who deserves so much success. He’s an amazing singer and performer as well as great person.

  • What’s wrong with Dj’s?

I have adam’s album on repeat. Every single song is awesome (delux version 15 songs) There is no doubt in my mind that if the radio would play his music- it would STAY at #1. Totally not fair!~!

I bought Born and Raised, it’s decent, but I like Battle Studies much, much better. Adam Lambert’s Trespassing was quite a surprise, it’s excellent.

When Kris Allen released his debut album, it sold 86,000 first week and entered at #11 on the Billboard 200. That week was crowded with releases from John Mayer, Justin Bieber, 50 Cent, Susan Boyle’s debut, etc. That was 2 1/2 years ago. The decline of overall album sales seems evident, because obviously, according to last week’s chart, 77,000 can get you to #1. Some Mayer fans I know think his new album is on the boring side, but I guess that doesn’t stop his sales since he’s seems to be at the point where people will buy it regardless (awhile ago actually). Not the biggest artist out there, but hopefully the talent-should-not-be-ignored Idols will earn that and more.

Correction: Kris Allen’s debut sold 80,000.
