Nicki Minaj‘s beef with Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg can take a back seat for now — there’s a new feud in town. Erykah Badu has lashed out at Wayne Coyne and The Flaming Lips for allowing an unfinished and unapproved version of their music video “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” appear online.

The band pulled down the extremely NSFW video almost immediately, and issued an apologetic statement. “The video… is unedited and unapproved. We, the Flaming Lips, accept full responsibility… it has outraged and upset a segment of fans and we apologize if we offended any viewers.” But the person it outraged and upset the most was Erykah Badu, who took to Twitter to express her anger.

The video for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” found its way online last week.  The clip involves images of Badu laying naked in a bathtub, as well as her sister Nayrok, also nude, covered in a variety of substances, including glitter, blood and fake semen.

Badu called the video “tasteless, meaningless [and] shock motivated,” and was extremely upset that she was not given the chance to see the video before it was made public. She was also angered that she was reportedly told the video would include “beautiful, tasteful imagery”, but when she showed up on set, Badu was “begged” to “sit naked in a tub filled with various fluids” and pose full-frontal.

Badu, who appeared naked in her controversial “Window Seat” video, refused to film most of the more disturbing elements of the clip, so she got her sister Nayrok (who she describes as being “much more liberal”) to cover for her. Badu was assured that the video would be edited in a way that would not confused Badu’s scenes with Nayrok’s, but that didn’t come to pass.

The singer went on Twitter to blast Coyne and the band:

I told you from jump that I believed your concept to be disturbing, but would give your edit a chance … U disrespected me by releasing pics and rough vid on the internet without my approval…That is equivalent to putting out a security camera’s images of me changing in the fitting room. Our art is a reflection of who we are … I have no connection to those images shot in their raw version.

As a human, I am disgusted with your what appears to be desperation and poor execution…As a director, I am unimpressed. As a sociologist I understand your type. As your fellow artist I am uninspired. As a woman I feel violated and underestimated.

These things have been said out of necessity. And if you don’t like it  you can KiSS MY Glittery ASS. O and Nayrok told me to tell u to kiss her ass too. Almost forgot. Peace.

Coyne’s response? “I kissed it! Thanks!” followed by “Dang!!!!! @fatbellybella you really know how to do it!!!! You hatin on me has gotten the video 100,000 more views !!!LOVE LOVE LOVE.”
