Alice Cooper once referred to Lady Gaga as the female version of himself. And over the weekend at Bonnaroo 2012, the legendary rocker channeled his inner monster to cover the pop star’s hit, “Born This Way”.

The rocker, who recently followed up his memorable appearance in 1992’s Wayne’s World with a cameo in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, surprised concertgoers with the song that came at the tail end of his 90-minute set. However, he put his own hard rock spin to Gaga’s Madonna sound-alike, including personalized lyrics about his upbringing: “Called myself Alice / surprised my dad,” the erstwhile Vincent Furnier sang. “He just didn’t understand.”

The crowd rocked and cheered along with the performance that went into the early morning. And though Lady Gaga didn’t appear at the music festival herself, Cooper brought out a giant “FrankenGaga” inspired by Mother Monster—blond wig, caution tape and all.
