The countdown is over, Beliebers (and non-Beliebers alike): after a journey that took him all around the world, Justin Bieber officially unveils his new album Believe today (June 19). But how did that journey begin? We’ve got an intimate look at the man himself as he was hard at work recording his third studio album. While the pop star’s maturing voice and evolving sound haven’t gone unnoticed by fans, his manager Scooter Braun notes that the most remarkable thing about the Bieb’s recording process this time is how much he’s stayed the same.

“Just the natural progression from the last album. He was 15 when he recorded the last album and he’s 18 now. The biggest surprise is that he hasn’t changed! The album perspective changes, but he doesn’t forget where he came from.”

Scooter also explained that the album isn’t just “swag, swag, swag”:

“We have learned through this entire process that by giving back to others through Justin, this music, and all of our efforts combine we are actually making a difference and that’s why the core of the album is called ‘Believe’ and we want people believe that they can make a difference as well.”
