Will Justin Bieber’s “All Around The World” Be 2012’s Song Of The Summer?

LATE PASS! Is Idolator really just getting to writing about this year’s Song Of The Summerafter Memorial Day? Didn’t everyone already collectively agree that it’s Carly Rae Jepsen‘s inescapable “Call Me Maybe”? Well, maybe, but allow us to cast aspersions on what the Internet has decided for you, by throwing four more contenders in the mix. Each day this week, we’re going to make the case for five current or soon-to-be Hot 100 chart-toppers (Ms. Jepsen included) and then leave it up to you to crown 2012’s Song of the Summer.

We’re going to kick things off with the lip-dubber to whom Carly Rae owes everything, Justin Bieber and his synth-heavy globe-trotting banger, “All Around The World”.

The first track of Bieb’s third studio album, Believe, casts the 18-year-old crooner as a world-wise Lothario seducing from the dancefloor. Over a beat Rolling Stone described as “universalist Euro-house”, Biebs declares “All around the world people want to be loved / Yeah, cause all around the world, they’re no different than us”. The David Guetta-like production won the song comparisons to the French DJ himself, as well as Chris Brown and Britney Spears. (Not to mention how the track’s echoing “way-oh-oh-ohs” closely parallel Spears’ 2011 single “Till The World Ends”, which tailed Adele‘s “Rolling In The Deep” for Song of the Summer last year.) Not too shabby company to keep.

Written and produced by Nolan Lambroza, Adam Messinger and Nasri Atweh of The Messengers and featuring a self-referential verse from Ludacris, “All Around The World” saw its official release via lyric video in early June. The song hasn’t done much chart-wise on this side of the pond — it currently sits at #22 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 and made a #5 debut on the Digital Songs list — but it’s early yet. (Canada and New Zealand hosted higher chart positions at #10 and #15, respectively.) We don’t even know for sure if the song is an official single, though we suspect that’s coming soon: Bieber’s been performing it everywhere and, lest you forget, 2012 is an Olympics year. Expect to get a big old earful of the internationally appealing jam as soon as the games are in full swing. Because if Jock Jams were still a thing, “All Around The World” would be the 2012 edition’s centerpiece track.
