Nelly Furtado’s “The Spirit Indestructible”: Listen

We’ve heard Nelly Furtado perform the title track from her new album The Spirit Indestructible live in Paris, and today comes the studio version of the single, produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, who also worked on Nelly’s previous single “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)”.

The track begins with the Canadian songstress singing over what sounds like a harpsichord before the beat comes down and the dance party begins. Oddly, there’s something totally 80s about whatever’s going on in this hot mess of a song. Rap-Up says this is a radio rip, but it comes off like an unfinished demo that needs a lot more work to make the whole thing mesh together. And we know Nelly has always been a bit nasal, but here she just sounds like she’s whining. See for yourself below.

The Spirit Indestructible drops September 18.

Has her voice always been so irritating? I used to like some of her music but these new songs, whilst the production is good, they really irritate my ears from her whiney voice.

This is a badge work of a bad quality recording of a live performance. Not a radio rip. so her voice is altered, don’t think it’s pounds like that. In her live performance in France she sounds way better

Sorry for the news flash but I’m pretty sure this is not live. It’s a radio rip. They played it in Germany. I do think it’s high but when she plays live, it’s fine.

Regardless, I love this song! Really empowering lyrics and so well written.
