“Never Close Our Eyes” crooner Adam Lambert is reportedly in talks to return to his old stomping grounds of the American Idol set — only this time the tables would be turned, and he’d be sitting with the judges. “They have been talking about Adam for over a month,” a source tells E! News. “He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start. He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on.”

Even more surprising is that fact that, according to the above-mentioned insider, Season 10 and 11 judges Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and, yes, even AI mainstay Randy Jackson may not be back for the 12th round of the series.

“Randy is great, but he’s part of the old Idol,” the source told E!. “They want to keep the soul of the show but have a new look, and for that reason he may well not be part of the new line up.”

As for Lopez, producers allegedly want her to stay put, but the show might not be able to afford her. The only mention of Tyler: “All is up in the air.”

Personally, we would love to see Adam Lambert on TV on a weekly basis, sussing out the talent on Idol. And given that Trespassing debuted high on the Billboard Top 200 but so far has yet to produce a hit single, we’re thinking the Season 8 vet could do with reminding the masses just how talented he is via the same type of career rejuvenation Adam Levine and Maroon 5 (and even Christina Aguilera) experienced from The Voice.
