The Killers’ “Runaways”: Listen To Their First ‘Battle Born’ Single

Curious to hear what the lead single from Battle Born, the first new album by The Killers in four years, sounds like? The Las Vegas band was set to premiere “Runaways” on L.A.’s KROQ this morning, but turns out the tune made its way online, as these things often do.

At any rate, the song is a rather bombastic one that features shimmery synths, fat guitar riffs, slamming drum work by Ronnie Vannucci and Brandon Flowers‘ lyrical tale of a young blond-haired, blue-eyed girl who flees home and gets hitched to a handsome but boozing (and possibly unfaithful?) charmer. Hear it below!

“We used to look at the stars and confess our dreams, hold each other till the morning light / we used to laugh, now we only fight, baby are you lonesome now,” Flowers croons on “Runaways”.

Don’t let the upbeat instrumentation fool you — Brandon’s lyrics of a sad marriage will rip your heart out. Here’s hoping things in the Flowers household aren’t this bad! But either way, we can confidently say this is a solid return for The Killers. Bring on Battle Born.
