Even if Mariah Carey doesn’t get that rumored American Idol gig, she’s still got reason to celebrate — the diva will be the guest of honor and will receive the Icon Award at the upcoming BMI Urban Awards. Mimi will join past honorees Snoop Dogg, L.A. Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds when she’s given the Icon Award for her “unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.”

If anyone is considered an icon in the music world, it’s Carey — the singer-songwriter has racked up more #1 hits than any other solo artist in history and has sold over 200 million albums throughout her career spanning over two decades. She’s currently working in the studio on her thirteenth (non-holiday-themed) studio album.

The BMI Urban Awards will be held Friday, September 7 in Beverly Hills.
