Rita Ora Drops New Single “Roc The Life”: Listen

Rita Ora is ready to release ORA on August 27, and the Brit pop star’s list of musical influences on her debut album may cause you to raise an eyebrow. “It’s going to be a shock, but in a good way,” she told Digital Spy at BBC Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend. “I love Little Dragon and The Vaccines, but then I love B.I.G. and TLC and Destiny’s Child, so you can expect variety. No Doubt was also a big influence on me while making this record, so you’re going to hear all the ins and outs of those kind of genres.”

We’re a little confused, since all of Rita’s recordings we’ve heard thus far — including her new single, “Roc The Life” — have sounded ten times more like Rihanna than anything No Doubt, TLC or Destiny’s Child ever released. But we suppose there’s plenty more tracks to come.

Hop below to check out the 21-year-old’s new single and see if it inspires you to “roc” out.

Rita Ora – “Roc The Life”

“Roc The Life”, co-written by The-Dream, is a fairly underwhelming, midtempo tune about living life to its fullest, filled with all the familiar cliches and non-specific boasts tossed in songs like these: “I’m off the chain, you’ve gotta love it / I can’t express enough how bad I want it / Baby one day I wanna be there / Beyond the stars like a zillionaire,” she sings.

The title is also an obvious reference to her new home at Roc Nation, in case you somehow missed its subtlety.
