Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstong Will Mentor On ‘The Voice’

If The Voice starts looking a little more emerald-hued next season, don’t adjust your TV sets. That’s just because Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong is the latest to grace the show’s lineup of celebrity mentors. The American Idiot will provide a welcome dose of rebellious pop-punkiness to the roster for the September 10 fall premiere, joining Michael Buble, Mary J. Blige, and Rob Thomas in their mentoring duties.

“It’s not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover,” Armstrong said of why he’s a fan of the show. And hey, if Armstrong’s advice happens to include “more sneering and political commentary,” we’re all for it.

Now we’re not sure which of our favorites musicians we’re most excited to see hit the small screen singing competition circuit — Mariah Carey on American Idol, Britney Spears on The X Factor, or Billie on The Voice. It’s getting competitive out there!
