We sat down with Yuna just hours before her live gig at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles recently. The up-and-coming 25-year-old singer, who recently covered Frank Ocean‘s Channel Orange opener “Thinking Bout You”, discussed her musical upbringing in her native Malaysia, where she started off writing poetry before diving into full-fledged songwriting and heading stateside. Beyond her Malaysian influences, the first-time Bonnaroo performer cited No Doubt and Fiona Apple as a few of her idols before talking about being starstruck by Pharrell, her co-collaborator and the producer of her single, “Live Your Life“.
