Though Carrie Underwood hails from Oklahoma instead of Kansas, the country singer finds inspiration from Dorothy’s adventures in Oz in her stirring new video for “Blown Away”, the title track off her latest album. The dramatic clip focuses on domestic abuse, with Carrie’s aggressive on-screen father going heavy on the liquor and grabbing onto her arm too long.

For such a weighty subject, it’s an interesting choice to sprinkle references to the Wizard Of Oz throughout — the crumbling yellow brick road, a scarecrow stuffed in the storm shelter, the singer’s pet companion, and the return to color and light (and a rainbow) at the clip’s conclusion. “We wanted to create this modern-day, tragic Wizard of Oz mini-movie,” Underwood says in the behind-the-scenes of her video. Mission accomplished.
