Snoop Dogg Transforms Into Snoop Lion: Watch The Trailer For ‘Reincarnated’
It’s not uncommon for a rapper to alter his moniker — Diddy, anyone? But Snoop Dogg, who has rechristined himself as Snoop Lion, seems to have changed his whole demeanor in addition to his stage name. After traveling to Jamaica to record an album with Diplo, the Cali MC found himself inspired by Rastafarian culture and embraced by the Jamaican people, causing him to enter a new stage of his life.
“I didn’t want to just come here and say I made a record in Jamaica and grow some dreadlocks,” he says in the trailer for his documentary Reincarnated. “I finally made it to paradise.”
Snoop has released rap albums for almost twenty years, but he’s decided to transition into a reggae artist with his upcoming album, also called Reincarnated. “I’m tired of rapping,” he says. “I want to do a record, a whole record, with no rapping.”
“Fuck Snoop Dogg,” he adds. “Don’t think about none of the shit he rapped about. Hustlin’ and making money and drug dealing and shooting. All that shit be outta here.”
Reincarnated with premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. And if you’re concerned just how much Snoop’s name and genre switch will change things, Buzzfeed lays it out for you. Basically, we can guarantee his marijuana use will remain consistent.
