Carly Rae Jepsen Tied With Gotye For Longest Stay Atop Hot 100 In 2012

Eight weeks. That’s how long Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe” and Gotye‘s “Somebody That I Used To Know” have each spent atop the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012 (so far). Carly is the current chart ruler, and she now matches Gotye’s run on top — this has them tied with each other for the longest stretch atop the main singles chart in 2012.

Not bad, considering it took till the tail end of last year for a song — Rihanna‘s “We Found Love” — to rack up eight weeks at #1. Both Carly Rae and Gotye were nominated for MTV Video Music Awards yesterday, for Best New Artist and Video Of The Year, respectively. Meanwhile, Jepsen is already on her way to achieving another solid hit, as her Owl City pair-up “Good Time” climbs to #13 on the Hot 100 this week. Guess she can kiss those one-hit wonder worries goodbye.
