It’s appropriate that Mariah Carey‘s comeback single is called “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)”, as the pop diva has had quite a winning year. Her adorable twins celebrated their first birthday, she remarried her loving husband Nick Cannon in Parisian style, and she became the highest paid reality show judge in history with her upcoming gig on American Idol. But we’re sure she’s hoping her most noteworthy moment of 2012 comes from her upcoming fourteenth studio album, preceded by the premiere of her feel good single. Listen to the soon-to-be-hit song, which features guest verses by Rick Ross and Meek Mill, below.

“Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” is an empowering midtempo ballad that the songbird wrote when she was going through some tough times. “I wrote TRIUMPHANT when I was going through a difficult time & it helped me get through it,” tweeted Carey about her new song. “When u hear it, pay attention 2 the lyrics #WIN.”

And now that we’re listening, there’s no doubt about it: this is Mariah in full-on inspiration mode, with her vocal melodies displaying more than a hint of ’70s Philly soul influence.

Strangely, Mimi takes a backseat to her two rapper guests for roughly the first two-thirds of “Triumphant”. She finally swoops in for a verse just before the three-minute mark, singing, “So baby when clouds surround you, and everyone seems to doubt you, baby, still know who you are.”

Mimi more than makes up for her absence from the early part of the tune with a cacophony of layered vocals as the song winds down. And, yes, lambs — “Triumph” even boasts classic whistle-register trilling from the diva as it fades out.
