Nile Rodgers On Daft Punk Collaboration: “It’s Going To Be So Cutting Edge”

Well, that rumored June release date of Daft Punk‘s new album came and went, but we’re still excited about the French duo’s upcoming LP, their first studio album since 2005’s Human After All. Disco legend Nile Rodgers has been working with the pair the past few months, and he’s got some otherworldly things to say about the electronic amazingness on the way.

Speaking to Mixmag after his set at Camp Bestival, Rodgers said, “All I can say is those guys are geniuses and to think that after all these years we’ve been trying to get together, they just show up at my apartment in New York City and the vibe between us is so powerful and so strong – it’s unbelievable.”

Back in February, Rodgers recounted the first day working with Daft Punk in his New York apartment. “Every track they played I just ran across the room and got my guitar and started playing and we were all dancing around my dining room having the time of our lives,” he told music blog Faster Louder.

“Spiritually and artistically working with them was as good as anything I’ve ever done,” he tells Mixmag, raising our expectations of DP’s new record even higher. “It’s as great as being in a studio with [David] Bowie, it’s great as being with Bernard Edwards, and it’s as great as the best stuff I’ve ever done with [Duran] Duran or Madonna.”

“It’s going to be so cutting edge that people aren’t going to expect what they’re doing,” he adds.

All we can say is GAAAAAAAHHHH this album can’t come out soon enough.
