It’s hard to imagine the holidays without some of the festive tunes that appeared on the very first A Very Special Christmas compilation in 1987 — songs like U2‘s “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”, Eurythmics‘ “Winter Wonderland”, Madonna‘s “Santa Baby” and Run-D.M.C‘s “Christmas In Hollis”. But now that the Special Olympics-benefiting compilation is turning 25, two new additions to the series have been announced for this year.

Both A Very Special Christmas 25th Anniversary and A Very Special Christmas: Bringing Peace On Earth will be released on October 16. Artists lined up to appear on the two collections include Christina Aguilera, Michael Buble, Train, The Band Perry, Jazon Mraz, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Cheap Trick and Rascal Flatts.

If there’s one person listed above who knows a thing or two about turning yuletide favorites into record sales, it’s Michael Buble. Last year the Canadian crooner’s holiday LP Christmas was released in October and went on to top the album chart for five weeks and move 2.4 million copies in the US by the end of 2011, thus becoming the second-best-selling album of the year (behind Adele‘s 21) in the process.

Likewise, Christina Aguilera released her Platinum-selling LP My Kind Of Christmas in 2000, while Amy Grant has no less than ten holiday albums to her credit.
