Two weeks after Ellie Goulding invited her fans to submit Instagram pics to be a part of lyric video for “Anything Goes”, the finished product has finally premiered. The song serves as the lead single from Goulding’s sophomore LP Halcyon (out October 9), and it couldn’t come at a better strike-while-the-iron-is-hot time — “Lights” just climbed to #2 on the new Billboard Hot 100 chart published today.
We’re digging the synth-drenched “Anything Can Happen” for so many reasons, not the least of which are the song’s soaring, anthem-like feel and Ellie’s heartfelt vocal performance. In fact, here the 25-year-old pretty much reinforces why we singled her out as one of the UK acts everyone should know about right now.
The song is a slight move away from the more somber and ethereal tracks on Lights, though it still contains plenty of the unique charm that had us swooning over Ellie in the first place. She’s progressed in the right way.
