2 Chainz Tops Album Chart, Adele’s ’21’ Has Nearly Passed ‘Thriller’s Stay In Top 10

Despite so-so reviews, 2 Chainz sees his debut solo album Based On A T.R.U. Story unseat the latest NOW compilation to grab the peak position on the Billboard Top 200. The Georgia MC’s LP sold 147,000 copies, which was more than enough to outpace new releases from Insane Clown Posse (their Mighty Death Pop goes in at #4 with 41,000) and Yellowcard (Southern Air enters at #10 with 23,000).

Meanwhile, the other big news this week is that Adele‘s sophomore LP 21 has racked up its 78th week in the Top 10. Billboard notes that this puts the album in a three-way tie with Michael Jackson‘s Thriller and Def Leppard‘s Hysteria for the third-most weeks inside the upper-most tier of the Top 200. Only Bruce Springsteen‘s Born In The U.S.A. (84 weeks) and the soundtrack to The Sound Of Music (109 weeks) have spent a longer time within the Top 10.
