Lil Wayne will drop his mixtape Dedication 4 on Aug. 30 — after he initially committed to releasing it last week, then decided to hold off until after the release of 2 ChainzBased on a T.R.U. Story. (The two of them have contributed to each other’s mixtapes since 2 Chainz was first known as Tity Boi.) Sounds like true Dedication, right? Well, sort of.

Weezy released the first two Dedication mixtapes less than five months apart in 2006, then Dedication 3 in 2008, though with plenty of projects in between. That said, after confessing that Dedicated 4 wasn’t even finished, then chalking it up to “skating and shit, falling and breaking shit,” Weezy made clear that he’s less interested in rapping than ever. (Based on the the fan-designed cover art though, perhaps Young Money heads saw this coming.)

A few days ago, he even half-joked to MTV News that he wasn’t true to form in “Yuck,” Based on a T.R.U. Story‘s opening track.”I’m very upset about that just to let everybody know: He put me on that, I sound wack as hell on there,” he said. “He did not tell me that was gonna be the first song on his album.”

Here’s to hoping that once he’s done with Dedication 4, Weezy has no other regrets.
