Of all the acts who first found success in the ’90s, took a hiatus and then staged a return this year — a la Garbage, Alanis Morissette, No Doubt, etc. — we can’t say we were totally expecting Matchbox Twenty to lead the pack with the biggest hit of the bunch. But lo and behold, the band’s first North single “She’s So Mean” has been steadily climbing the Billboard Hot 100, and this week cracks the Top 40 (at #40).

Last night the gents hit up the Late Show, where, David Letterman pointed out, Matchbox Twenty made their network television debut in 1997. And yet, somehow, Rob Thomas doesn’t look a day older than he did back then. Creepy. Catch their “She’s So Mean” performance above.
