Lady Gaga Debuts Fragrance Commercial, Takes Nap, Gets Tatted Up

What’s a Lady Gaga event without some crazy antics? The pop star stepped up her game last night when she appeared at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City to promote her fragrance, Fame, with a series of increasingly strange, high-concept visuals. Say what you will about Lady Gaga, but never say she doesn’t go H.A.M. when it comes to throwing a killer party.

First up, as part of the promotional package, Gaga premiered a five-minute commercial produced by Ridley Scott (because why not?) that reportedly required a seven-figure budget: It’s a surreal, unsettling clip, futuristic and dystopic, that sees Gaga covered in viscous black slime (because again, why not?). The director, Steven Klein, explained to Vanity Fair that the film was about “the idea of the pleasures and pain of fame, and the temptation of fame. What is it like to embark on the journey of fame, and what are the costs of fame?”

After the commercial premiered, fashion elite like Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang and celebrities including Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Yoko Ono watched as Gaga pretended to nap on stage while masked guests stuck their hands through a hole and caressed her hand. After she “awakened,” she dressed and applied perfume while listening to David Bowie‘s “Fame” played. At one point, reportedly, she urinated into a champagne bucket while the crowd watched, then smoked an electric cigarette. The coup de grace, though, came when a tattoo artist joined her on stage to adorn the back of her just-shaved head with an angel tattoo.

Just another day in the life of Gaga.
