UPDATE: Christina Aguilera Reportedly Talks Body Image Pressures

Christina Aguilera has been busy promoting her new single “Your Body,” but, according to Us Weekly, now she’s turning her attention to another body altogether — her own. The publication has run quotes that are said to be from Aguilera’s Billboard cover story (but which do not appear in Billboard‘s online version of the article or in the print version) — although the story has since taken down, and in a statement to EW, her rep disputed the validity of the quotes.

And according to Us, the superstar diva talks about her journey with her body image and struggles with her weight: “I told them during this Lotus recording, ‘You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it. They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body. My body can’t put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore — my body is just not on the table that way anymore.”

Other quotes Us ran include the following:

“I got tired of being a skinny white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl… [In 2002,] I had gained about 15 pounds during promotion and during my Stripped tour. They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight. Basically, they told me I would effect [sic] a lot of people if I gained weight — the production, musical directors. They claimed people I toured with would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows.”

Does it seem likely that the “Your Body” singer really spoke about her own body in this manner? Perhaps Us got ahold of quotes that were cut from the actual Billboard article?  Let us know your thoughts below, or by hitting us up on Facebook and Twitter!
