As the release of her sophomore LP Halcyon approaches, Ellie Goulding has been dazzling us which new material like “Explosions.” And while her original songs continues to impress, she’s capable of turning out some killer covers, too. Earlier today (October 2), she performed a surprisingly gorgeous version of fun.‘s single “Some Nights.” At this point, it seems like she’s got the Midas touch: everything she sings turns to Gould. (Sorry.)

Goulding appeared on BBC’s Radio 1 to perform the acoustic rendition of “Some Nights,” which starts off with rich a cappella vocals and limited, stripped-back instrumentation. Eventually, a full band jumps in to fill the track up, as layers of bright harmonies frame her delicate voice. It’s livelier material than Goulding normally takes to, but she executes it admirably. Hear it below.
