Bridgit Mendler’s “Forgot To Laugh”: Idolator Premiere

Bridgit Mendler has been busy promoting her first single “Ready Or Not” in anticipation of her upcoming debut studio album Hello My Name Is, due out October 22. That song reflects Mendler’s love of soul, as it interpolates The Delfonics‘ 1968 song “Ready Or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide from Love)”, which was memorably sampled by The Fugees in their single “Ready Or Not” back in 1996.

But today, we’re premiering a new, never-before-heard cut from the Disney star-turned-vocalist that’s pure pop, in the best way. Listen to Mendler’s new track, “Forgot To Laugh,” after the jump. (Seriously, do it — it’s amazing.)

“If you drive away, hope you get a flat tire, get stranded / if it’s goodbye today, know you’re leaving here empty-handed / ’cause I got my own life and you’re just a punchline / if you go, you’re a joke, I forgot to laugh,” she sings. The sharp songcraft is all the more impressive given that Mendler co-wrote the track herself.
