Leona Lewis Covers Alex Clare’s “Too Close”: Watch The Unplugged Take

Leona Lewis is gearing up for the release of her third album Glassheart (out October 15), so in a session with UK tabloid The Sun, she performed a cover of Alex Clare‘s lurching EDM smash “Too Close.” This seems like a natural choice, given the electro flourishes we heard on the Glassheart preview. But Leona gives a curveball here: instead of going further down dubstep’s rabbit hole, she performs an acoustic rendition of the song. Watch it after the jump.

Accompanied by just an acoustic guitar, the stripped-down version highlights Leona’s soulful voice, but it also shows just how well-crafted “Too Close” is. Stripped of the computerized trappings, the song’s skeleton is impressively melodic and organic, proving that Clare used the dubstep wobbles as an accent rather than a crutch.

What did you think of Leona’s version of the song? Let us know in the comments, or on Facebook and Twitter.
